"Made in NRW" supports fictional and nonfiction content from North Rhine-Westphalia for digital platforms—with a particular focus on distribution through the ARD Mediathek.
Is this funding program right for me?
Please note: The Made in NRW funding program will not be open for applications again until 2027.
As a first step, please check whether you meet the funding criteria. “Made in NRW” is a joint initiative of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and WDR, aimed at production companies based in North Rhine-Westphalia that wish to further develop fictional or non-fictional projects in an early stage of development in collaboration with talent from North Rhine-Westphalia. The focus is on projects with potential for digital distribution channels.
Funding Criteria for the MADE IN NRW Development Call
Joint Development Call by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and WDR for the development of fictional and non-fictional projects with the potential for streaming-friendly release on digital platforms.

NRW Producers and NRW Talents
Applications may be submitted by NRW producers in collaboration with screenwriters or filmmakers. The screenplay and/or director must be from North Rhine-Westphalia.

Fictional and Non-Fictional Projects
Funding is available for both fictional and nonfiction projects. There are no restrictions on genre or format.

Streaming-Ready Projects
We are seeking projects with the potential for streaming-friendly distribution, with digital platforms as the primary distribution channel.

Distribution via the ARD Mediathek
The goal is to make the selected projects available in the ARD Mediathek.

Funding of up to 50,000 euros
Funding may amount to a maximum of 50,000 euros per project and is provided as a grant.

12-month implementation period
The implementation period is 12 months.

New Project
The project must be a new one that has not yet been submitted to any funding agency.

Production in North Rhine-Westphalia
As part of the application, the applicant must confirm that the project can be produced in North Rhine-Westphalia.

No Students
This funding is not intended for students.

Missing consultation
A consultation is required before submitting an application. Access to the application form on the online portal will be activated only after the consultation.

No Parallel Submission Under a Comparable Funding Category
Projects for which funding is being sought through the MADE IN NRW funding initiative cannot be submitted under a comparable funding category of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.
Application Documents
- Compelling one-page summary with logline, synopsis, genre, and format
- Project synopsis with visual and narrative vision (max. 5 pages)
- Writer’s Note / Producer’s Note
- Filmography/CV of the writer, director (if applicable), and producer
- Proof of rights to the material
- Budget for project development costs, including the NRW effect
- Schedule
- Current extract from the commercial register, business registration, or proof of primary residence in NRW
- Statement regarding the feasibility of producing the project in NRW
- Statement confirming that this is a new project that has not yet been submitted to any funding agency
