"Kidnapped" is the new drama by the Italian writer-director Marco Bellocchio. The international co-production was produced by Cologne’s The Match Factory in co-production with Kavac Film (IT), IBC Movie (IT) and Ad Vitam (FR) and in cooperation with the broadcasters BR and Arte. Pandora will be handling theatrical distribution, with The Match Factory taking on world sales. The Filmstiftung supported the film’s production with 500,000 Euros. Fausto Russo Alesi, Barbara Ronchi, Leonardo Maltese, Francesco Giufuni, Enea Sala and many others also came to NRW to appear in the film. "Kidnapped" is based on the true story of Edgardo Mortara, a Jewish boy who was kidnapped in 1858 after having been secretly baptised. He was snatched from his family to be raised as a Christian. His parents' struggle to free their son became part of a larger political struggle pitting the papacy against the forces of democracy and Italian unification. Bellocchio co-wrote the screenplay together with Susanna Nicciarelli and Daniela Ceselli.
