Canneseries Festival 2022: World Premiere of „Punishment“ in Competition
The programme for this year’s Canneseries festival has now been unveiled. Two episodes of the Filmstiftung-backed anthology „Punishment“ have been invited to screen in the Competition: the films „The Thorn“ by Hüseyin Tabak and „The Diver“ by Oliver Hirschbiegel will have their world premieres as part of the „Competition Official Selection 2022“ at the series festival on the Côte d’Azur.
„Punishment“ is the most successful collection of short stories to date from the screenwriter Ferdinand von Schirach. The stories „The Thorn“, „The Diver“, „The Lake House“, „The Lay Judge“, „A Light Blue Day“ and „Subotnic“ have now been adapted by six leading German directors for RTL+. The filmmakers are Helene Hegemann („Axolotl Overkill“), Mia Spengler („Back for Good“), Oliver Hirschbiegel („Downfall“), Patrick Vollrath („7500“), Hüseyin Tabak („Your Beauty Is Worth Nothing“) und David Wnendt („Wetlands“).
The six episodes were in production last year from July to November in Berlin and surroundings, the Bavarian foothills of the Alps as well as at various locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. The episode of „The Thorn“, which is being shown at the Canneseries festival, was also shot in NRW. The anthology of the six films has been produced by MOOVIE GmbH. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and FilmFernsehFonds (FFF) Bayern provided funding for the production. The films can be seen on RTL+ later this year.
