Federal State of NRW, Landesanstalt and Filmstiftung NRW extend partnership with the iEmmys

  • Continuation of partnership announced at the 15th Semi-Final Judging in Cologne
  • Presentation of NRW as a TV hub at the iEmmy festival for the past 13 years

Yesterday saw the Semi-Final Round of Judging being held in Cologne for the 15th time with a jury of 46 television professionals deciding on the nominations for the Best Performance by an Actress, Best Documentary and Best Comedy categories on behalf of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The traditional evening reception was hosted by the producer and German Academy Ambassador Leopold Hoesch (Broadview TV). Petra Müller (CEO Film- und Medienstiftung NRW), Tobias Schmid (Director Landesanstalt für Medien NRW), Henning Tewes (Managing Director RTL Television) and Nathaniel Brendel (Senior Director Emmy Judging at The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences) were present along with numerous actors, directors and producers.

In her welcome address, Petra Müller announced on behalf of the federal state, the Landesanstalt and the Film- und Medienstiftung that the partnership between NRW and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is to be extended. The past 13 years have seen the partners being joined by a delegation of TV professionals at the iEmmy festival in New York to present NRW as a media and TV hub.

The 49th International Emmy Awards gala will be held in New York on 22 November. More than 30 semi-final jury sessions are currently being held around the globe to decide on the nominations. The nominations in all 16 categories will be published in the third week of September. It was already announced that ZDF Director-General Thomas Bellut will be presented with the 2021 Directorate Award.

The Semi-Final Round of Judging in Cologne was supported in 2021 by the Prime-Minister of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, the Landesanstalt für Medien in NRW, Broadview TV, ZDF, WDR, RTL and the MMC studios. The guests at the Emmy evening cocktail in Cologne included the actress Anke Engelke, Alexander Bickel (WDR), actor Hannes Jaenicke, Frank-Dieter Freiling (ZDF), writer Ralf Husmann, Jörg Graf (RTL), producer Philipp Käßbohrer (btf) and actress and iEmmy winner Anna Schudt.
