- New in 2016: high-quality documentary series
A successful model returns: after the successful launch last February, the „Drama Series Days“ are being held again at the forthcoming European Film Market during the Berlin International Film Festival (11-21 February, 2016). The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW will once again be a partner of this successful initiative which offers a dedicated specialist platform for TV series. The extensive programme of screenings and events for the „Drama Series Days“ – held on 15 and 16 February – will now be extended to include the area of high-quality documentary series. The first edition of the „Drama Series Days“ was met with enthusiasm by both the film and television industries and generated a wide international response.
„As a partner and co-initiator of the 'Drama Series Days', the Filmstiftung NRW played a decisive role in the Berlinale’s European Film Market opening up to high-quality international and national TV series,“ says Petra Müller, CEO of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. „The Filmstiftung has had an intensive involvement with series for some time and backs the development and production of ambitious series content. So, we are really pleased that the new platform was quick in attracting so much interest from the international film and TV industry, the general public and the media. The extension of the ,Drama Series Days‘ to include horizontally narrated documentary series is therefore just a logical step!“
Together with the EFM Director Matthijs Wouter Knol and Berlinale Director Dieter Kosslick, the Filmstiftung CEO Petra Müller had launched the first edition of the „Drama Series Days“ as a new platform for the presentation and distribution of high-quality series content. This year’s programme included the market screenings of selected series, the series pitch at the Berlinale Co-Production Market where series projects were presented, a business lounge as well as two packed panel discussions about high-quality international and national drama series. The programme will also last for two days in 2016.
The „Drama Series Days“ are a joint initiative of the industry platforms European Film Market, Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents. The European Film Market is one of the most important platforms for international trading with film rights and audiovisual content.
