FilmSchauPlätze: Open-air movie theater tour through North Rhine-Westphalia delights 2,500 visitors
The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW’s FilmSchauPlätze initiative once again delighted people throughout North Rhine-Westphalia this summer: open-air cinema screenings at historic sites and iconic buildings, combined with a diverse supporting program organized by local partners. Olsberg was the sixth and final FilmSchauPlatz of the year last night; over 300 visitors accepted the invitation and watched “The Frog and the Water” in front of the Josefsheim. A total of around 2,500 visitors attended the six venues in the Lower Rhine region, the Rhineland, East Westphalia-Lippe, and the Sauerland (July 24 through August 27).
“Movies and cinema culture inspire people—the FilmSchauPlätze NRW have impressively demonstrated this once again in 2026. Especially in our vast state of North Rhine-Westphalia, this series brings cinema and films to the regions, reaching people from a wide variety of generations and backgrounds. The tremendous response and enthusiasm from the audience delight us and encourage us to continue the FilmSchauPlätze in 2027 as well,” said Walid Nakschbandi, Managing Director of the Film and Media Foundation NRW.
This year’s FilmSchauPlätze events took place in Wevelinghoven, Leichlingen, Dingden, Bad Holzhausen/Preußisch Oldendorf, Rheinberg, and Olsberg. Anna Fantl, who has been the project manager for FilmSchauPlätze NRW since its inception, organized the event series again this year. The patron was NRW Minister-President Hendrik Wüst.
