This Friday, April 5, will see the start of the second edition of the Cannes International Series Festival. "Bauhaus – A New Era" is among ten international series being shown in the competition where it will also have its world premiere. The multiple award-winning director Lars Kraume developed the script for the six-part series together with Judith Angerbauer. The CanneSeries festival has been taking place upstream of the MIPTV TV trade fair since 2018 and will be showing series from all over the world between 5 and 11 April. And an international jury will be handing out the Canneseries Awards in a total of six different categories.

About the series:

„Bauhaus – A New Era“ deals with historical figures and events. The story begins with Walter Gropius founding the State Bauhaus in 1919 and ends in 1925 when the Bauhaus is forced to move to Dessau for political reasons. The student Dörte Helm is at the centre of the story alongside Walter Gropius. She wants to rid herself of the shackles of her conservative family and devote herself completely to the life of an artist. Gropius and Helm come closer to each other in the middle of the turbulent first years of the Bauhaus and the political unrest of the Weimar Republic. "Bauhaus – A New Era" is not only about the masters and students of the Bauhaus. It also focuses on the exciting new art that was created or developed there.

„Bauhaus – A New Era“ is a production  of zero one film in co-production with ZDF/ARTE, Constantin Television and Nadcon Film. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW supported the series with 1.1 million Euros, additional backing coming from MBB, MDM, MFG Baden-Württemberg and the German Motion Picture Fund. The lead roles are taken by Anna Maria Mühe as the student and artist Dörte Helm and August Diehl as Walter Gropius. Valerie Pachner, Ludwig Trepte, Hanns Zischler, Corinna Kirchhoff, Birgit Minichmayr, Sebastian Blomberg and many others also feature in the cast. The six-part TV series was shot at Cologne’s MMC Studios, among other places, and the first public presentation was as part of a Showcase at the Berlinale’s Drama Series Days in February. Beta Film is handling world sales and will be celebrating its 60th anniversary with two entries in the Competition.

The TV airing of "Bauhaus – A New Era" is scheduled for autumn 2019 on ZDF. The first two episodes will be shown in Cannes.
