Filmstiftung NRW fires starting shot for the second Wim Wenders Grant

Düsseldorf, February 8, 2015: The starting shot has been fired today for the second call for applications for the Wim Wenders Grant by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW in collaboration with the Wim Wenders Foundation which was established in 2012. The Grant supports the projects of  young film-makers who want to tell stories with new means.

"Encouraging young film-makers in the development of their individual artistic vision is one of our nicest tasks. The fact that we are able to do this together with Wim Wenders is a great honour. We are really excited about the new projects and the second funding session,” says Petra Müller, CEO of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, "The fact that we already went in the right direction at the first session is shown by the presence of the Grant-holders Fabian Driehorst and Frédéric Schuld in this year’s Berlinale Shorts competition as producers of David Jansen’s animation film ‘Däwit’.”

The Grant has a total budget of € 100,000. The allocation is decided by an expert jury chaired by Wim Wenders in a two-stage application procedure. After a pre-selection by the jury, the candidates have to present their projects in person in front of the jury. Apart from content-related criteria, the focus here is on the convincing formal and visual development of the project ideas.

The multi-Oscar-nominated director, who is being honoured at this year’s Berlinale with an Homage and the Golden Honorary Bear, and his wife Donata Wenders established the Wim Wenders Foundation in Dusseldorf in 2012 with support from the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the City of Düsseldorf, the Film- und Medienstiftung and private donors. In addition to preserving the director’s artistic life’s work, the Foundation also intends to serve as a platform for exchange and research in the areas of film, art and media and, with the help of the Grant, to support innovative narrative art by young film-makers and video artists.

Applications for the Wim Wenders Grant can be submitted to the Film- und Medienstiftung up until April 20, 2015. The application documentation must include a concept of approx. 10 pages, a budget plan as well as the CV and a reference project from the applicant.

The contact persons at the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW are Susanna Felgener () and Sven Ilgner (). All information and documents for the Wim Wenders Grant can now be found  at www.filmstiftung.de.
