"A fantastic way for ‚In The Fade‘ to begin the film year of 2018! Congratulations to Fatih Akin, Diane Kruger, bombero and the whole film crew on winning the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language!", says Petra Müller, CEO of Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. „The Golden Globe is a wonderful acknowledgement of Fatih Akin’s work and also a good omen for the Oscar nominations in two weeks' time. We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope that the success story of ‚In The Fade‘ will lead directly after Cannes and Beverly Hills to the Oscars at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles."

„In The Fade“ is a production by bombero international in co-production with Warner Bros. Film Productions Germany, Macassar Productions (F), Pathé (F) and corazón international. Fatih Akin’s thriller, which had its world premiere at the film festival in Cannes, centres on a woman’s love for her family beyond the grave. Her life suddenly implodes: her husband and son die in a bomb attack. The police arrest two suspects: a young neo-Nazi couple. The young woman wants justice – for her, there is no alternative. Diane Kruger, Denis Moschitto and Numan Acar can be seen in the leads of the drama. Diane Kruger was named Best Actress in Cannes for her performance. Last year’s Bambi Awards also saw Kruger and Akin receiving the „Special Prize of the Jury“ for „In The Fade“.

Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein and theFilmstiftung served as the film’s main funders, with additional backing coming from the FFA, BKM and the DFFF. The film was released in German cinemas on 23 November by Warner Bros.. The Cologne-based sales agent The Match Factory has already sold the film to 60 territories.

The past two years had already seen another two Filmstiftung-backed co-productions, „Toni Erdmann" by Maren Ade and „Mustang" by Deniz Gamze Ergüven, being nominated for the Golden Globes and then also receiving an Oscar nomination.
