Jennifer Mival: "Given the current pressure to innovate coming from new, digital players and changing viewing habits, it’s hard to imagine a more exciting time for the entertainment genre. The MA Entertainment Producing adds a 'Learning by Understanding' in the best possible way to the 'Learning by Doing' principle which is so prevalent in the entertainment field – a great initiative from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and ifs given the genre’s growing importance. I am looking forward to helping shape this new course of study and to working with my colleagues from the industry to prepare students for future forms of entertainment production. We are looking to promote originality as well as an awareness of the interplay between economic and social responsibility through a critical examination of the genre and an open exchange with the industry."

Nadja Radojevic, Managing Director of the ifs: "With Jennifer Mival, we have succeeded in being able to recruit an extremely experienced format expert as professor, and someone who knows the entertainment industry from the perspective of the producers, broadcasters and streaming services. Thanks to her extensive experience, she has excellent national and international connections within the industry, and her many years of working in NRW mean that she has also has close ties to the entertainment hub of Cologne. I’m looking forward to using her expertise to launch the new course and to working with her and the industry partners to also expand this nascent training programme in entertainment in the medium term."

About the master’s programme in „Entertainment Producing“
In future, the two-year part-time master’s programme will accept new students every two years beginning in the winter semester. The course of study is unique in the German-speaking world and dedicated to the production of non-fictional entertainment formats. It offers media professionals from the TV industry and career changers from related fields the opportunity to expand and deepen their theoretical and practical knowledge in order to further qualify for management tasks or entrepreneurial activities in entertainment. The programme was developed on the initiative and with the support of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and in close cooperation with the Entertainment Master Class and prominent producers from the entertainment industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was preceded by two pilot programmes and an Entertainment Master Class. Additional in-service training programmes are being planned.

Founded in 2000, the ifs internationale filmschule köln is now one of the leading training centres for film and the moving image in Germany. It sees itself as an internationally-oriented training and further education institution for the audiovisual media industry. Its goal is to offer film and media professionals high-quality, future-oriented training with theory and practice in close tandem. Its location at the film and media hub of Cologne further emphasises its claim of being particularly close to the industry. The ifs is a subsidiary of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. The courses of study are offered in cooperation with the TH Köln.
