The European Film Academy (EFA) announced the nominations for the 27th European Film Awards 2014 at the European Film Festival in Seville, Spain, at the weekend. Lars von Trier'sNymphomaniac Director's Cut Volume I & II“ can hope to have a chance of winning no less than three of the trophies. Both lead actors, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stellan Skarsgård, have been nominated as Best Actors,  „Nymphomaniac“ itself as Best Film. The more than 3,000 members of the European Film Academy will now vote on the winners who will be presented with the European Film Awards at the gala ceremony in Riga on December 13.

„’Nymphomaniac' caused a big sensation this year. So, it’s even nicer that the European Film Academy has nominated this extraordinary film in no less than three categories,“ says Petra Müller, CEO of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. „We congratulate Lars von Trier,  Charlotte Gainsbourg and Stellan Skarsgård and the whole Zentropa team in Copenhagen and Cologne. NRW is crossing its fingers for Riga!“

Lars von Trier’s „Nymphomaniac Volume I & II“, which was largely shot in NRW, is prominently cast with Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Shia LaBeouf, Christian Slater and Uma Thurman. The film was produced by Zentropa Entertainments in co-production with Zentropa International Cologne, Slot Machine and Caviar Lab. The co-producer from NRW is Bettina Brokemper.

The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW backed the film with 1.2 million Euros. Other funders are the Danish Film Institute, Eurimages, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF), the Nordic Film & TV Fund, the Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée, the Belgian Tax Shelter and the Flanders Audiovisual Fund in cooperation with DR and Film i Väst. In addition, support came from the broadcasters Arte and Canal+ as well as the West Danish Film Fund and development support from the MEDIA Programme. „Nymphomaniac“ is the sixth collaboration between the Filmstiftung and Lars von Trier following „Melancholia“, „Antichrist“, „Manderlay“, „Dogville“ and „Dancer in the Dark“. „Nymphomaniac Volume I & II“ screened out of competition at this year’s Berlinale and the film festival in Venice.

The awards ceremony will be streamed live at the www.europeanfilmawards.eu and broadcast by Arte on December 13.
