NRW at the International Emmy World TV Festival and the International Emmy Awards
At the 52nd edition of the International Emmy Awards, the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in New York will present awards to the world’s best TV programs. In the run-up to the awards ceremony, the International Emmy World Television Festival will take place on the weekend of November 23-24, where the international TV industry will meet to network and discuss the latest developments and formats and the nominees will present themselves on panels. Academy President Bruce Paisner expects more than 600 festival visitors and over 1,000 guests to attend the awards on Monday evening, November 25, in New York. (www.iemmys.tv)
As the leading German TV location, North Rhine-Westphalia will be represented by a delegation of television professionals. The NRW presentation is organized by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, represented on site by Managing Director Walid Nakschbandi, the State of NRW, represented by Mark Speich, State Secretary for Federal and European Affairs, International Affairs and Media of the State of NRW, and the Landesanstalt für Medien NRW. This year’s delegation includes NRW producers Sabine de Mardt (Gaumont), Nina Klink (Seapoint), broadcaster representatives Inga Leschek and OIiver Schablitzki (both RTL Deutschland), as well as producers Sam Davis (Rowboat), Leopold Hoesch (Broadview TV) and Michael Souvignier (Zeitsprung Pictures).
Florence Kasumba, Damian Hardung, Moritz Führmann: Celebrity faces for NRW
Among the prominent “faces” for North Rhine-Westphalia are actress Florence Kasumba (“Hameln”, “Black Panther”) and actor Damian Hardung (“Love Sucks”, “Maxton Hall”), who both come from North Rhine-Westphalia and have long since celebrated their international breakthrough. Damian Hardung will be the presenter at the awards ceremony on Monday. Another busy actor from NRW, Moritz Führmann (“Charité”, “Ich bin Dagobert”), will represent the film and television location.
Nominations for NRW productions
Cologne-based director and screenwriter Isabel Kleefeld, director and writer Julian Pörksen and producer Tom Spieß (Constantin) are nominated in the “TV Movie / Mini Series” category with the Netflix hit “Liebes Kind”. Cologne-based producer Lutz Heineking jr. (eitelsonnenschein), who is also nominated with the KIKA series “Gong! Mein spektRakuläres Leben” by KHM graduate Hannah-Lisa Paul in the ‘Kids: Live Action’ category.
The partnership between North Rhine-Westphalia and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has existed for 16 years. In addition to the annual delegation visit to New York, the German ambassador to the International Emmys, Leopold Hoesch, organizes the semi-final judging of the International Emmys at Schloss Arff near Cologne every summer, where the nominations for several categories are decided.
TV and series funding at the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW
Since its inception, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW has supported the production of fictional TV events and, for over ten years, innovative serial formats as well as the development and production of high-end series. The Filmstiftung represents NRW as a TV location at the international television trade fairs MIPTV and MIPCOM and is the main partner of the Series Camp and the Berlinale Series Market. The FMS is also a partner of Series Mania.
