NRW at the International Emmys 2013

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is presenting the 41st International Emmys to the world’s best TV programmes in the coming week as part of the Emmy World International Television Festival. This year will again see more than 700 TV experts from 50 different nations expected to attend the festival (23.-24.11.) and the awards ceremony (25.11.) in New York. The host is the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with its President and CEO Bruce Paisner.

As the leading German TV production hub, NRW has had a presence at the television festival since 2009 and sends a delegation of TV professionals to it each year. 2013’s delegation includes the NRW producers Philip Borbély (MMC), Michael Souvignier (Zeitsprung), Leopold Hoesch (Broadview) and Sam Davis (Rowboat), who is nominated in the ¨Best Mini-Series/TV movie¨ category with ¨Das Wunder von Kärnten¨. Caroline Peters (¨Mord mit Aussicht¨) as well as Volker Bruch and Miriam Stein from the award-winning ZDF mini-series ¨Operation War¨ (¨Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter¨) are in New York as the faces representing NRW production. The delegation also includes the actor Ken Duken who appeared in three new NRW productions this year: he played the lead in the Emmy-nominated ¨Das Wunder von Kärnten¨ and could also be seen in the ZDF three-parter ¨Das Adlon¨ and the feature film ¨Two Lives¨ (¨Zwei Leben¨) which is representing Germany in the race for the Oscars. Other German guests are WDR’s Director of Television Verena Kulenkampff, Michael Loeb (WDR mediagroup) and the producers Michael Smeaton (FFP New Media) and Daniel Hetzer and Kay Niessen (both from action concept).

Anke Schäferkordt, CEO of the RTL Deutschland media group, will be presented with the International Emmy Directorate Award during a gala ceremony on Monday evening.

The NRW presentation is organised by the Federal State of NRW, represented by Secretary of State for Media Jan Marc Eumann, in collaboration with the Landesanstalt für Medien and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, represented by Petra Müller.

The media region of NRW and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences have been cooperating since 2009. In addition to the annual visit by a NRW delegation to the Emmy festival, a part of the Emmy judgings are held in Cologne.
