NRW Film Prize: the nominations for the Best Fiction Feature and Best Documentary

The Film Festival Cologne will be rounded off on Friday, 14 October, 2016 with the first presentation of the NRW Film Prize in the categories for Best Fiction Feature and Best Documentary. The NRW Film Prize was created to recognise films that particularly exemplify filmmaking in and from NRW. Films are considered here that have been made with substantial involvement from a NRW producer and/or have been largely produced in NRW and were released in German cinemas between 1 September, 2015 and 31 August, 2016. Both awards have prize-money totalling 10,000 Euros.

The donors of the newly created NRW Film Prize are the Federal State of North Rine-Westphalia, the City of Cologne, and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. The nomination and choice of winners is the responsibility of an indEpendent jury under the chairmanship of the film critic Sven von Reden. The other jury members are Dorothee Krings (Rheinische Post), Anke Leweke (RBB Berlin), Frank Olbert (Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger) and Dominik Porschen (Filmlounge Köln).

The decisions on the prize-winners will be announced immediately before the beginning of the festival. The prize ceremony will be held during the NRW International Film Awards in Cologne’s Gürzenich. In addition to the NRW Film Prizes, this evening will see the presentation of the Cologne Film Prize to Claire Denis as well as the international actor award.cologne, The Hollywood Reporter Award, the phoenix prize and the TV Spielfilm Award.

As a successor to the Cologne Conference, the Film Festival Cologne will be showing outstanding TV and film productions for the 26th time from 7 to 14 October, 2016. Lectures and seminars, showcases and roundtables will be on offer in an accompanying Programme.
