„The Bridges of Sarajevo“ as Séance Spéciale in Cannes

As the Festival de Cannes announced today, the film project „The Bridges of Sarajevo“ has been invited as a Special Screening. The international co-production, produced on the German side by Cologne’s unafilm, was supported by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.

„The Bridges of Sarajevo“ is a cinematic contribution to the centenary commemoration on the outbreak of the First World War. The film is a collaboration by leading European directors and consists of 13 short films on the subject. The German director Angela Schanelec contributed „Princip, Texte“. Other participating film-makers are Aida Begic, Cristi Puiu, Pedro Costa, Vincenzo Marra, Ursula Meier, Marc Recha and Jean Luc Godard, who is represented in the Competition of this year’s festival with his new film „Adieu au Langage“ .

The artistic director of the omnibus film project is Jean-Michel Frodon. „The Bridges of Sarajevo“ is a production of the Cologne-based unafilm (producer: Titus Kreyenberg) in co-production with cineteve, Bande à Part Films, Ukbar Filmes and MIR Cinematografica. The project received funding totalling 100,000 € from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. Another funder is the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

The film festival in Cannes is one of the most important film festivals worldwide. Its 67th edition is being held  from 14 – 25 May, 2014. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW will present itself again in the German Pavilion as part of Focus Germany, the amalgamation of the seven major German film funds, and together with German Films.
