„Toni Erdmann“ goes Toronto. Exceptional Filmstiftung-backed production invited as a Special Presentation

The organisers of the 41st Toronto International Film Festival (08.-18.09.2016) announced the first titles for this year’s programme on Tuesday. Maren Ade’s Filmstiftung-backed comedy „Toni Erdmann“, this summer’s big festival and theatrical success, will be shown as a ¨Special Presentation¨. The film was the first one from Germany for eight years to have its world premiere in the Cannes competition and is currently heading the German arthouse charts with over 150,000 admissions accumulated since its release in Germany on 14 July. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW supported the film as the main funder.

„Toni Erdmann“ is a production of Komplizen Film in co-production with coop99 Filmproduktion and Missing Link Films. The lead roles were taken by Sandra Hüller and Peter Simonischek. SWR, WDR and ARTE participated in the production as broadcasters. Part of the film was shot in Aachen, and Bucharest was another location. The Film-und Medienstiftung NRW backed the film’s production and distribution with a total of 785,000 Euros, with additional support coming from MBB, FFHSH, FFF, DFFF, FFA, BKM, ÖFI, Filmstandort Austria, MEDIA and Eurimages.
