French-born Syrian writer-director Soudade Kaadan takes a very poetic approach to the highly topical story about a lesser-known side to the chaos of war in Syria. "Nezouh" in Arabic means displacement. 14-year-old Zeina and her parents are among the last to live in their besieged neighbourhood in Damascus amidst the Syrian conflict. When a missile rips a gaping hole in their house, Zeina discovers a window that opens up a world of unimaginable possibilities. She likes sleeping in the open air under the stars and makes friends with Amer, the boy of the same age living next door. As the violence of the fighting escalates, Zeina and her parents are pressured into leaving their home, but her father is determined to stay. He refuses to be a refugee. Faced with the danger to their lives, Zeina and her mother must now make their own decision. "Nezouh" is a production of Agat-Ex Nihilo (FR), Berkeley Media Group and Zajal Productions (UK). Samer al Masri, Kinda Alloush, Nizar Alani and Hala Zein star. Kaadan was awarded the Baumi Script Development Award in 2018 for the treatment for "Nezouh". MK2 is handling world sales.
