The world’s biggest fair of interactive games and entertainment, gamescom, will be taking place in the Messehallen Cologne for the fourth time from 15th to 19th August. The organisers again expect some 250,000 visitors and more than 500 exhibitors from almost 40 countries this year.
Two films supported by the Film‐ und Medienstiftung NRW have been invited to take part in the official programme of the 65th International Film Festival in Locarno. In the acclaimed Semaine de la Critique it will be possible to see “Camp 14 – Total Control Zone” by Marc Wiese and “Forget me not” by David Sieveking.

This was announced today by Jens-Uwe Bornemann, Vice President Digital Ventures & Innovation of UFA, during the International Film Conference in Cologne.
In the context of the Entertainment Day of the International Film Conference in Cologne the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW announced the launch of a pilot funding programme for the development of innovative entertainment formats. The aim of the funding programme is to support creative producers from NRW as they develop their format ideas.
At the opening of the International Film Conference of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, NRW’s State Secretary for Media Dr. Marc Jan Eumann presented the basic features of the new state government’s film policy. Eumann emphasised that the federal states want to cooperate intensively to build a new structure of film policy in Germany.
This year the International Film Conference of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW takes place in the context of Medienforum.NRW and will again be discussing the effects of digitalisation on the production, distribution and reception of film, TV and innovative media content. The conference will also be concerning itself with the entertainment field.
Two NRW-supported coproductions received prizes at the 65th International Film Festival in Cannes, which came to its conclusion with the award ceremony today. The prize for direction went to Carlos Reygadas’ drama “Post Tenebras Lux”, which celebrated its world premiere in the festival competition on Thursday.
In 2012 the International Film Conference organised by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, which takes place every year in the context of the Medienforum.NRW, will be re-examining the effects of digitalisation on the production, distribution and reception of films, TV and innovative media content.
For two weeks in June, Cologne will be the media capital of the Federal Republic once again: from 12th to 27th June, national and international specialists from the media and entertainment industry will be meeting by the Rhine for conferences, award ceremonies and a fair.
NRW will be represented by five films in the various sections of the 65th Film Festival of Cannes (16th ‐27th May). These invitations to Cannes are further evidence of the state’s producers’ and filmmakers’ ability to hold their own against international competition.
