"The Settlers" is the feature film debut of the Chilean director Felipe Gálvez whose third short film had been previously shown in the Critics’ Week in Cannes. At the beginning of the 20th century, a wealthy landowner in Chile hired three horsemen to define the boundaries of his extensive property and open a path to the Atlantic for his sheep. The expedition, consisting of a young Chilean mestizo, an American mercenary and a ruthless British lieutenant, soon develops into a civilizational raid through vast Patagonia. Gálvez co-wrote the screenplay together with Antonia Girardi. Camilo Arancibia and Alfredo Castro are in the cast. "The Settlers" is a production of Chilean Quijote Films in co-production with Cologne-based Sutor Kolonko, Quiddity (GB), Ciné-sud (FR), SnowGlobe (DK) and Rei Cine (AR). The Filmstiftung supported the international co-production with 70,000 Euros. MK2 Films is handling the world sales.
