European Work in Progress Cologne 2020: 28 Filmprojekte sind im Rennen

Heute startet die dritte Ausgabe von European Work in Progress Cologne (EWIP) im Rahmen des 30. Film Festival Cologne. 28 Filmprojekte aus 34 Ländern wurden sorgfältig ausgewählt und die Produktionsteams haben nun die Möglichkeit, ihre Filmproduktionen einem internationalen Branchenpublikum zu präsentieren. Das internationale Branchenevent findet vom 05. bis zum 07. Oktober trotz der Corona-Pandemie in Anwesenheit der Teilnehmer vor Ort statt, selbstverständlich mit einem abgestimmten Hygienekonzept. Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es, diese kreativen Köpfe mit führenden Experten und Vertretern internationaler Verleihfirmen, Weltvertriebe, Filmfestivals und anderen Branchendelegierten zusammenzubringen, um Kooperations- und Finanzierungsstrategien weiterzuentwickeln und zu finalisieren.

Torsten Frehse, Vorstandsmitglied der AG Verleih: „Die Erfahrungen in Cannes und anderen Branchenevents in diesem Corona-Jahr haben gezeigt, dass der direkte Austausch von Menschen trotz zahlreicher digitaler Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten durch nichts zu ersetzen ist. Deshalb haben wir mit unseren Partnern lange an einem Konzept gearbeitet, um die Hygienestandards und den Anspruch, alle Teilnehmer nach Köln zu holen, zu erfüllen. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass die Gäste aus Deutschland und der Welt der Einladung gefolgt sind.“

Wie schon im Jahr zuvor glänzt die Auswahl an Filmprojekten mit einer Vielfalt an Themen und Genres. Erneut war es möglich, nicht nur Spielfilme sondern auch Dokumentarfilme einzureichen. Eine Besonderheit stellt in dieser Ausgabe die Produktion VIRAL von Christian Beetz aus Deutschland/Israel dar. Bei dieser Dokumentationsserie handelt es sich um eine Zusammenstellung von bereits bestehendem YouTube-Material, welche das alltägliche Leben in Zeiten der Corona-Pandemie thematisiert und nicht aktueller sein könnte.

Einige Teilnehmer sind bereits von der zweiten EWIP-Ausgabe bekannt. Beispielsweise ist RED BALLOON Koproduzent eines spannenden Dramas. Zudem wird die deutsche Produktionsfirma LUPA FILM mit ihrem Drama FABIAN (WT) unter der Regie von Dominik Graf teilnehmen. Weitere bedeutende internationale Produktionsfirmen, die in diesem Jahr dabei sein werden, sind u.a. METRAFILMS (Russland), MAGAMEDIA (Irland) und INSCRIPT (Litauen).

Während des Events werden alle Filmprojekte in 15-minütigen Pitching-Sessions erfahrenen Branchenkennern vorgestellt. Zusätzlich wird es One-to-One Meetings sowie verschiedene Podiumsdiskussionen und Workshops  in Zusammenarbeit mit Creative Europe Desk NRW und Creative Europe Desks Germany geben. Die Preisverleihung am Dienstagabend vervollständigt das Programm.

Unterstützt wird EWIP maßgeblich von der Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, einem der führenden Förderhäuser Europas, und ausgerichtet von der AG Verleih, dem Verband der deutschen unabhängigen Filmverleiher.

Die Jury, bestehend aus anerkannten Branchenvertreter*innen wie Triin Tramberg, u.a. Programmkoordinatorin beim Talinn Black Nights Festival, Leslie Chen, Senior Advisor von Blossoms Entertainment, Melanie Andernach, Geschäftsführerin und Mitbegründerin der MADE IN GERMANY Filmproduktion, sowie Sebastian Lückel, Teamleiter Kino, Einkauf und Planung bei ARD Degeto, vergibt Preise in einem Gesamtwert von 37.000 Euro, die Postproduktionsdienstleistungen sowie die Pressebetreuung bei einem internationalen Festival umfassen.

Erneut sind K13 Studios, LAVAlabs Moving Images, ARRI Media und die ZOOM Medienfabrik die Award Sponsoren.
