The documentary fiction feature film "Europe" by director Philip Scheffner, who wrote the screenplay together with Merle Kröger, is a production by the French company Pong Film in co-production with Cologne-based Blinker Film. The film’s central location is the Place de l’Europe in France: Zohra Hamadi, severe scoliosis, operated on 14 times, can finally start a normal life. She is walking upright, can finally breathe freely. But Europe grants her only a few days in the present. Zohra Hamadi decides to reach out toward the future. EUROPE tells the story of a fictionalisation enforced by the state. The amateur actors Rhim Ibrir, Thierry Cantin and Didier Cuillierier are cast in the lead roles. Grandfilm will release the film in German cinemas. The Filmstiftung NRW supported the production with 50,000 Euros. Additional support came from MBB and Eurimages.
