The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW holds numerous shareholdings as part of its responsibility for the film and media region:

  • ifs internationale filmschule köln gmbh, Cologne (100 %)
    The ifs internationale filmschule köln is a full study and further education institution with an artistic-scientific focus serving aspiring media professionals. It is an initiative of the NRW state government and the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and was founded in 2000 as a non-profit limited liability company. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW is the sole shareholder of the ifs. The ifs’ portfolio covers Bachelor’s programs in Screenwriting, Directing, Creative Producing, Director of Photography, Editing Picture & Sound, VFX & Animation, and Production Design, as well as international Master’s programs in Serial Storytelling, Digital Narratives, and 3D Animation for Film & Games and several further education programs. The study programs are carried out in cooperation with the TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences.

  • Mediengründerzentrum NRW GmbH, Cologne (50 %)
    Launched in May 2006, the Mediengründerzentrum NRW is aimed at start-ups and young companies from the media industry. Budding entrepreneurs are supported by accompanying consultation and the awarding of grants. Thanks to the close cooperation with NRW’s media and communications industry and targeted know-how transfer, the Mediengründerzentrum prepares young professionals for the future. The Film­ und Medienstiftung has been a shareholder with a 50 % stake since the centre’s founding in 2005.

  • Grimme-Institut Gesellschaft für Medien, Bildung und Kultur mbH, Marl (10 %)
    The Grimme-Institut’s role as a research and service institution is to address questions of media policy and the culture of communication. Apart from education and research, the institute’s activities also include the annual presentation of the Grimme Prize and the Grimme Online Award. The Filmstiftung NRW has been a shareholder with a 10 % stake since 2006. www.grimme-institut.de
  • German Films Services + Marketing GmbH, Munich (4 %)
    Based in Munich, German Films Service + Marketing GmbH is the national information and advice centre for the global export of German films. This foreign representation of the German film industry emerged in 2004 from the Export-Union of German Cinema which had been founded in 1954. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW is a shareholder with a 4 % stake.
