Filmstiftung announces pilot support programme for entertainment formats
Film- und Medienstiftung NRW announces pilot support programme for the development of innovative entertainment formats
- 500,000 Euros each year for format ideas from NRW
- NRW’s leading position as an entertainment location to be consolidated
- Start in autumn 2012
In the context of the Entertainment Day of the International Film Conference in Cologne the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW announced the launch of a pilot funding programme for the development of innovative entertainment formats. The aim of the funding programme is to support creative producers from NRW as they develop their format ideas and thus to further consolidate NRW’s leading position as an entertainment location.
“The pilot support programme is directed at producers and young developers in NRW. The funding should give them the opportunity to realise their entertainment ideas and present them on the market,” said Petra Müller at the opening of the first Entertainment Day during the International Film Conference. “In addition, the programme is a further component in the re-orientation of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW as an integrated support institution now responsible for location marketing and matters of location development as well as film funding.”
Dr. Angelica Schwall-Düren, NRW State Minister of Federal Affairs, Europe and Media: “North Rhine–Westphalia is Germany’s leading location for the production of TV entertainment formats. We need more entertainment formats ‘made in Germany’ and ‘made in NRW.’”
Dr. Christian Franckenstein, board member of the Allianz Deutscher Produzenten – Film & Fernsehen e.V. and speaker of the board of MME Moviement AG, said: “Entertainment is one of the most important German TV programme genres, which has been determined largely by international formats to date. Such an approach to funding means that producers are placed in a better position to develop their own formats and to increase their international competitiveness. This is an important step for entertainment producers in Germany, in particular with respect to the further development of their business model in the digital age. We are therefore grateful to the State of NRW and the Film- und Medienstiftung for this forward-looking, innovative pilot funding scheme.”
The Allianz Deutscher Produzenten – Film & Fernsehen cooperates with the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW to realise the Entertainment Day during the International Film Conference.
The Film- und Medienstiftung will make an annual total of 500,000 Euros available from its state budget to fund the pilot support programme Entertainment. Producers and format developers from NRW will be entitled to apply. The first meeting to decide on funding will take place this autumn. The Film- und Medienstiftung will decide on applications, together with a specialist committee not yet appointed.
The announced programme is the second pilot funding programme of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW after the pilot funding programme “Innovative Audiovisual Content” for the development of digital content introduced in 2011.
The International Film Conference of the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW took place in the context of Medienforum.NRW. Organisers are the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the LfM Nova.
