Jella Haase is European Shooting Star

The European Film Promotion (EFP) announced the names of the 10 young European acting talents who are to be honored as European Shooting Stars 2016 at the Berlinale. The German actress Jella Haase was selected as one of Europe’s best talents.

The European Shooting Stars 2016 were chosen in Hamburg by an international expert jury which included the German film critic Tobias Kniebe among its members. The SHOOTING STARS were selected from 24 candidates that had been nominated by the member organizations of European Film Promotion, including German Films.

European Film Promotion will present the EUROPEAN SHOOTING STARS to the international film community during the Berlinale’s opening weekend. The European talents will be introduced to international casting directors, agents, directors, producers and members of the press at various events and workshops. The crowning highlight is the presentation of the SHOOTING STARS Awards on the stage of the Berlinale Palast.

The German SHOOTING STAR Jella Haase made her film debut in 2011 with LOLLIPOP MONSTER by Ziska Riemann (Network Movie), followed by her role alongside Alina Levshin in David F. Wnendt’s multi-award-winning feature debut COMBAT GIRLS (Mafilm Martens Film- und Fernsehproduktion, Filmuniversität Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF). Jella Hasse received the 2012 Bavarian Film Prize for Best Newcomer Actress for these two roles. In 2013, she enthralled more than seven million German cinema-goers in Bora Dagtekin’s sensational success FACK JU GÖHTE – SUCK ME SHAKESPEER (Rat Pack Filmproduktion, Constantin Film Produktion) with her role as the white trash schoolgirl Chantal and subsequently received a nomination in the category of Best Supporting Actress at the 2014 German Film Awards. She has also been in the equally successful sequel FACK JU GÖHTE 2 (Constantin Film Produktion). In 2014, Jella Haase appeared in the Swedish-German cinema production YOUNG SOPHIE BELL by Amanda Adolfsson (SE/DE, Weydemann Bros.). On 3 December 2015, FOUR KINGS by Theresa von Eltz (C-FILMS, Tatami Films) with Jella Haase in a lead role opposite last year’s German SHOOTING STARS Jannis Niewöhner, opened in the German cinemas. The coming-of-age drama had previously been awarded the main prize of the independent sidebar Alice nella città following its international premiere at the Rome Film Fest.

The jury on the 23-year-old: "When it comes to playing outspoken, rebelllious and and slightly trashy characters with a heart of gold, Jella has German audiences at her feet – as witnessed again in FOUR KINGS. Now we can’t wait to see her apply that joyful energy in new, challenging and unexpected ways."
