When the lady-in-waiting Irma (Sandra Hüller) takes up her duties, she falls head over heels in love with the mesmerising and freedom-loving Empress Sisi (Susanne Wolff), who is living in Greece in a kind of aristocratic commune. Surrounded by women, far away from Emperor Franz Joseph. Together, they travel wherever the whim takes them. And it could all go on like this forever if Sisi wasn’t the Empress. Also starring Georg Friedrich, Stefan Kurt, Tom Rhys Harries, Markus Schleinzer, Sophie Hutter, Angela Winkler, Maresi Riegner, Sibylle Canonica and Johanna Wokalek. Director Frauke Finsterwalder co-wrote the screenplay with Christian Kracht. "Sisi & Ich" is a production of Walker+Worm Film in co-production with C-Films (CH) and Dor Film (AUT) with the participation of BR, SWR, Arte and SRF. The film was supported in Germany by the Filmstiftung NRW with 700,000 Euros as well as by FFF Bayern, MBB, FFA, BKM and DFFF, among others. DCM will release the film in German cinemas on 30 March, 2023. The Match Factory is handling international sales. Principal photography took place in Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Malta. Filming in NRW was at Benrath Palace (Düsseldorf) and Herdringen Castle (Arnsberg).
