The digital edition of Berlinale Series Market & Conference – from Tuesday, March 2 to Friday, March 5 – will also be focusing on the latest series and the future of the series market. The European Film Market (EFM) will be hosting a virtual conference and screening programme with keynotes, showcases and streaming as part of the 71st Berlinale. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW is participating now for the seventh year running as a co-initiator and official main partner.

"The series and streaming hype has accelerated even further during the lockdown, new content is urgently needed. Keynotes, talks and showcases will give us an opportunity to discuss the content strategies of programme providers, platforms and producers, we will be looking at what the audience wants and where we are heading, particularly in the current situation," says Petra Müller, CEO Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. "It is good news for the industry that this year will again see the EFM providing the makers of series with a market and conference platform. We are pleased that we can also support the market as its main partner for the seventh edition and are really looking forward to seeing the digital series marathon!"

Opening: keynote conversation Russell T Davies, market analysis and talk
The new EFM Director Dennis Ruh and Filmstiftung CEO Petra Müller will jointly open the one-day online conference on Wednesday, March 3. This will be followed by an opening keynote conversation by the legendary British TV producer and screenwriter ("Doctor Who," "Queer as Folk," "Years and Years"). Guy Bisson (Ampere Analytics) will present his market analysis of global narrative trends. Top-notch industry representatives will then pick up on issues raised in the analysis for a roundtable about their content strategies and current trends in series production.

Showcases
Series showcases from various countries will accompany the conference programme. The showcase "Upcoming Series From Germany" will focus on German series production, including the Filmstiftung-backed eight-part drama-adventure series "Wild Republic" (Lailaps Pictures / X Filme Creative Pool, Magenta TV / WDR / SWR / arte / One, Beta Film) as well as "Para – Wir sind King" (W&B Television, TNT Serie), "Blackout" (W&B Television, Joyn / Sat1, Red Arrow Studios Int.) and "Terra Vision" (Kundschafter Film / Sunny Side Up, Netflix).

Market Screenings, Series Market Selects, Co-Pro Series Pitches, networking at "Mix and Mingle"
Series will also be presented for the first time under the "Series Market Selects" label in addition to the Market Screenings. 12 productions with high commercial potential from Europe, Australia, Russia and Canada will be showcased. The Co-Pro Series Pitches of the Berlinale Co-Production Market will present 10 selected series projects seeking partners for co-production and financing. The Berlinale Series Market & Conference will also be offering networking opportunities for the makers of series in its online edition with the introduction of the "Mix and Mingle" format. Berlinale Series Market & Conference
Berlinale Series Market & Conference is a joint initiative of the EFM, the Berlinale Co-Production Market and Berlinale Talents. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW joined forces with the EFM in 2015 to launch the Berlinale Series Market & Conference (previously "Drama Series Days") as a platform for series. The European Film Market is one of the world’s most important markets for the international trade in film rights and audiovisual content.
